Material examined — Mayotte KUW 2009, st. 14, Prudente Bank, 15-17 m, 1 F ov. 17.7 x 7.1 mm, MNHN B32556, MNHN-IU-2009-1316; st. 19 north Islet Handrema, 6-12 m, 1 F 13.1 x 4.9 mm, MNHN B32557, MNHN-IU-2009-1317.
Remarks — In this species the hiatus between the eave and postorbital lobe is rounded and has a minute spine in its middle (Griffin, 1974; Ratbhun, 1906) which is not figured on the plate by Dana (1855, pl. 2, fig. 1) for the original description of the species.
Geographic and depth ranges — IWP, Red Sea, Mayotte (this work) to Hawaii, ?French Polynesia; subtidal to 18-161 m. Presence in French Polynesia (Marquesas, coll. 2012, AAMP Expedition, st. 21, 20 m, Ua Huka, det. J. Poupin, sp. in FLMNH 030136) is very probable but the determination in Legall & Poupin (2018) needs to be confirmed with comparison specimens.

Poupin, 1 mâle juvénile 2,5(3,5) x 1,6 mm [épines rostrales 0,53 fois la longueur carapace], échantillon 115b, 9 novembre 2020, Pointe au Sel, 21.20383 S / 55.27436 E, 75 m, sur substrat dur et détritique. — 1 femelle juvénile 3,4 (6,3 avec cornes) x 2,3 mm [cornes = 0.85 carapace, photo et dessin de la zone orbitaire ; spécimen examiné à posteriori, semble bien conspécifique du premier ; les cornes rostrales sont nettement plus longues ; la carapace est molle il s’agit d’un spécimen en mue, certaines épines sont très acérées : supraorbitale, intercalaire, post orbitaire, hépatique, branchiales], échantillon 33b, 17 septembre 2020, Sainte Rose, 21.12040 S / 55.78695 E, 75 à 80 m, sur tombant colonisé. — 1 ?mâle juvénile 3,1 (5,4 avec épines) x 2 mm [examiné en dernier, visiblement conspécifique des 2 autres. Les épines rostrales sont franchement divergentes ; l’épine disto-dorsale forte n’est présente que sur le mérus de P2 (pas sur P3-P5)], échantillon 131b, 27 novembre 2020, Pointe au Sel, 21.20383 S / 55.27436 E, 80 m, substrat détritique, coralligène avec algues et éponges.
