Remarks — Coloration of the carapace on specimens examined very variable, from almost totally red, to totally depigmented in white cream with numerous intermediate aspects (illustrated in Legall & Poupin, 2018).
Geographic and depth ranges — IWP, Red Sea, Kenya, Mayotte, Madagascar to Japan, French Polynesia, Easter Island; subtidal to about 80-120 m from unpublished observation in Austal Islands, French Polynesia (BENTHAUS Expedition, 2002, J. Poupin).
