World Distribution
Serène (1984 : 29) - Indo-ouest Pacifique. Lybia tessellata a une large distribution indo-ouest-pacifique de la Mer Rouge aux Iles Hawaii. Dans l’Océan Indien Occidental, elle a été originellement décrite de l'Ile Maurice où, depuis, elle a été souvent signalée; mais elle est connue aussi de la Mer Rouge, Seychelles (Aldabra, Amirantes, Coetivy), de La Réunion et de Madagascar. Comprend, Afrique orientale, Somalie, Kenya, Mozambique, Glorieuses, Mayotte, Polynésie française.

Geographic and depth ranges — IWP, Red Sea, South Africa to Japan, Guam, French Polynesia; subtidal. All previous records of this species in Hawaii are attributed to Lybia edmondsoni Takeda & Miyake, 1970 in Castro (2011: 100).
