World Distribution
(Alpheus thompsoni Anker, 2022: 278, Zootaxa) - Indo-West Pacific: so far confirmed only from Papua New Guinea (Madang); numerous photographic records (as “A. ochrostriatus” or Alpheus sp.) ranging from the Red Sea (Karplus et al. 1981) to Indonesia (Randall et al. 2007; Kuiter & Debelius 2009) and Japan (Anker 2000; Karplus & Thompson 2011) also recorded, possibly based on colour photographs, from New Caledonia (Poupin 2010, as “A. ochrostriatus”); however, all records from outside of the type locality require confirmation as more than one species might be involved (see below).
Perhaps also ?Réunion, ?French Polynesia, ?New Caledonia.
Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Associated with fishes
Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 1-5 m

A. aff. ochrostriatus - Réunion, Poupin, 2008: 42, fig. 34b; 2009: 106, photo, 2010: 33. Not A. aff. ochrostriatus but probably A. thomsoni Anker, 2022. A. Anker correction (mail 2025).
New Caledonia data
Alpheus cf. ochrostriatus - Juncker & Poupin, 2009: 39, New Caledonia, Profondeur : 1-10 m, photo in situ. Probably A. ?thompsoni instead (Anker mail, 2025).
Central Pacific data (Wallis & Futuna, Polynesia, Clipperton, Easter Island)
Alpheus aff. ochrostriatus. - Salvat & Bacchet, 2011: 235, photo, field guide 'Au Vent des Iles Ed. Tahiti - French Polynesia, most often Society (Moorea, Tahiti). - Probably A. ?thompsoni instead (Anker suggestion, 2025)

Alpheus ochrostriatus (in Karplus et al., 1981) is a nomen nudum. Not valid. Previous records of A. ochrostriatus in CRUSTA DB are probably Alpheus thompsoni (com. A. Anker, mail 2025).
