Neocallichirus taiaro Ngoc-Ho, 1995: 211, fig. 1-2 (Taiaro). - Poupin, 1998: 32 (Checklist). - Remark - In Sakai (1999: 99) Neocallichirus taiaro Ngoc-Ho, 1995 is a junior synonym of N. indicus (De Man, 1905). Ngoc-Ho (pers. com.) does not agree with that synonymy. P. Dworschak (mail 23 August 2012) 'Now we know more about the variability in jousseaumei (=indicus) and all the characters of taiaro are well within the range of those observed in jousseaumei. I can see no difference … It can, however, not be excluded that it is a cryptic species like variabilis from Hawaii which can not be differentiated from jousseaumei morphologically (see Dworschak, 2011)
