World Distribution
Marin & Anker (2011: 6) - Widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific, ranging from the Red Sea and East Africa to French Polynesia and Japan (e.g., Bruce 1982; Chace & Bruce 1993; for full list of records see Li 2000); however, at least some of the previous records may refer to one of the below-described new species. Include Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique channel, Comoros (Mayotte, Glorieuses), Seychelles, Réunion, Maldivia, Indonesia, Australia, Philippines, Salomon, Marshall, Samoa.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Associated with corals (obligate)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 0-8 m

Philarius gerlachei - Bruce, 1978 : 280 (Banc du Geyser, large de Mayotte, coll. A.J. Bruce, F.R.V. Manihine, cruise 328, st. 118, 7-8 m, S 12° 23', E 46° 24', 1 mâle, 1 juvénile, MNHN).
