Decapoda - Caridea - Pandalidae - Heteronika

Heteronika nesisi (Burukovsky, 1986)

World Distribution
Chan & Crosnier (1997, MUSORSTOM 18) - Indo-Pacific from Madagascar to Seychelles, Philippines, Samoa, Kiribati, French Polynesia and surrounding areas, perhaps also Baja California, at depths 550-1080 m; also East Pacific seamount (type) at 13°34'N, 120°33'W, 800 m.
Hendrick (2019, Zoosystema) - Known from two (three?) localities. Type locality (13°34' N, 120°33' W), on a seamount about 1000 km off western Mexico, ca. 800 m depth (Burukovsky 1986). Off western Mexico (23º18'40" N, 111º19'37" W; material examined), 750–850 m depth. If the specimen reported by Chace (1989: 87) proves to belong to Heteronika nesisi, new comb., there would be a third known locality for this species (22°48'20" N, 109°52'40" W; off Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico).

Plesionika nesisi - TARASOC 2009, st. DW3378, 887-890 m, Kaukura - Paris MNHN-IU-2011-3780.
Heteronika nesisi - Hendrick, 2019, Zoosytema: 51, citation of Poupin (1996) and Chan & Crosnier (1997) for new genus Heteronika but no specimens of H. nesisi examined from French Polynesia. According to this author: The material reported by Chan & Crosnier (1997) as "Plesionika nesisi" probably belongs to a different species and should be included in Heteronika gen. nov. once this is confirmed. Comment(s) on data
New genus Heteronika is from Hendrick (2019, Zoosytema: 50). According to this author "The material reported by Chan & Crosnier (1997) as "Plesionika nesisi" probably belongs to a different species and should be included in Heteronika gen. Nov. Once this is confirmed". Chan & Crosnier (1997) have, however, carefully compared the type of P. nesisi with a large set of P. nesisi from French Polynesia and others IWP areas. They have documented large morphological variations that can occur within this species. Hendrick (2019) has examined only 8 new specimens of H. nesisi from type region but not the holotype nor others IWP specimens of H. nesisi.
