World Distribution
Marin (2007: 17) - Indo-West Pacific: southern Red Sea (type locality), Kenya, Marquesas Islands (Bruce, 2005), herewith reported for first time from Vietnam.
(Landschoff et al. 2022, WIOMS - South Africa from in situ photograph, without discussion / comparison with sibling Pontonides ankeri)

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Associated with corals (obligate)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 0-5 m

Central Pacific data (Wallis & Futuna, Polynesia, Clipperton, Easter Island)
Pontonides unciger - Monod, 1979: 10, fig. 9-35 (Tahuata; associated with a coral Anthipataria). - Poupin, 1998: 17 (Checklist). According to Marin (2007) all records of P. unciger from FP should be checked as they could belong to P. ankeri.
