Pérez Farfante & Kensley (1997); Vereshchaka (1990; 2000) - South-west Atlantic off Brazil and Argentina; South-east Atlantic; south-west Indian Ocean; New Zealand; Seamounts Sala y Gòmez and south-western part of Nazca ridge, 21°41'-25°58'S / 81°19'-100°41'W). - Bathypelagic (200-300 m at night and 1000-2000 m during the day). Pelagic, thus probably whole French Polynesia (Society, Tuamotu, Gambier, Marquesas, Austral)

EASTER ISLAND - Sergestes? potens - Vereshchaka, 1990: 138 (Seamounts Sala y Gòmez and south-western part of Nazca ridge, 21°41'-25°58'S / 81°19'-100°41'W; 230-2000 m). - Sergestes robustus Smith, 1882 - Vereshchaka, 1990: 138 (Seamounts Sala y Gòmez and south-western part of Nazca ridge, 22°06'S / 81°19'W; 230-2000 m); Not Sergia robusta (Smith, 1882) fide Vereshchaka, 2000: 157 (under Sergia robusta): "The record by Vereshchaka, (1990b) from the area of the Nazca and Sala-y-Gomez ridges is an error, as this species now appears to be one of those briefly described by Burkenroad (1940), being juveniles of S. maxima and S. potens." - Sergia potens - Vereshchaka, 2000: 139 (Geographic distribution; Syn.). - FRENCH POLYNESIA - Sergia potens - Vereshchaka, 2000: 139, fig. 38, 45-46 (Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans, including off New Zealand and over Nazca and Sala-y-Gomez ridges; probably also French Polynesia and Easter Island; 200-2000m).
