Mozambic to central America, including ?French Polynesia. In the Eastern Pacific, from the gulf of California, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, to Equator, and oceanic Islands: Baja California Sur, Revillagigedo (Clarion, Socorro), Clipperton, Galapagos.
Castro et al. (2004 : 41) - Indo-Pacifique. Comprend, Afrique orientale, Mozambique, Mayotte, premier signalement, Réunion, Polynésie française, Clipperton, Galapagos.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Associated with corals (obligate)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 0-60 m

Trapezia formosa - Mission KUW novembre 2009, st. 14, Banc de la Prudente, 15-17 m, 1 mâle 5,7 x 6,8 mm; 1 femelle ov. 5,5 x 7,2 mm (photo), det. P. Castro, MNHN B32266. - Castro, 2013: 460, Tropical Deep Sea Benthos - Glorieuses in Remarks 'T. formosa Smith, 1869, previously known from Mozambique and Îles Glorieuses in the Mozambique Channel (Castro 1998).
