World Distribution
(Komai, 2020, Fauna Ryukyuana - The literature records and the present material suggest that Upogebia pugnax is widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical western Pacific: Sumbawa, Indonesia (de Man 1905, 1928; type locality), New Caledonia (Ngoc-Ho 1991, 1994), Philippines (Dworschak 2019) and Yaeyama Islands, Ryukyu Islands, Japan (this study); at depths of 8–36 m

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Soft bottom (mud or sand)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 8-36 m

Ngoc-Ho (1991, 1994) described and illustrated U. pugnax with two males from Ile Saint Marie, New Caledonia, and one ovigerous female from the Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia, respectively
