(Holthuis, 1972: 33): Pantropic species, Eastern Atlantic (Mediterranean and West africa); West Indies (Bermuda to Curaçao), East Pacific (Gulf of California to Colombia; Clipperton Island, Revillagigedo Islands, Cocos Island, Galagpagos), Indo-West Pacific (Red Sea, Ceylon, Wake Island, Hawaii, French Polynesia, Easter Island -Hanga Roa). - Li & Poupin (2009: 580, J. Crust. Biol.) - Type locality: Oran and Bone, Algeria. Also known from the Red Sea, Zanzibar, Sri Lanka, Ryukyu Islands, Caroline Islands, Chesterfield Islands, New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands, Wake Island, Hawaii, French Polynesia, and Easter Island. Also known extensively in the Eastern Pacific, Eastern and Western Atlantic, and western Mediterranean region.

Vertical range : Shallow to deep-waters (e.g. 10-190 m) - Min-Max observed: 1-105 m

Comment: this is a shallow water species mostly already collected during Karubenthos 2012. This ubiquitous species is also reported herein from St Martin (coll. and photos A. Anker/G. Paulay, 17-19/04/2012, specimen UF32244, 32254, 32250, 32286).
