Catoptrus nitidus A. Milne-Edwards, 1870

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Hard bottom (rock and rubbles)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 6-42 m

Central Pacific data (Wallis & Futuna, Polynesia, Clipperton, Easter Island)
Catoptrus nitidus - Rathbun, 1907: 60 (Makemo). - Forest & Guinot, 1962: 58 (Biogeography "Tahiti-Tuamotu"). - Stephenson, 1972: 29 (Syn.). - Guinot, 1985: 449 (List). - Poupin, 1996a: 29 (Checklist, pro parte, not specimens from Eiao 42 m det. as Libystes truncatifrons by K. Moosa). - New material - Coll. P. Frouin (st. 1211, Tahiti, 6m), det. J. Poupin "aff. nitidus" (to be checked in MNHN collection; could be Libystes aff truncatifrons). - Remark: synonymy proposed by Stephenson (1972: 29) between Catoptrus nitidus A. Milne Edwards, 1870 and Libystes truncatifrons (de Man, 1887) is not valid (A. Crosnier, pers. com. February 2003). - This species is often confused with C. inaequalis (Rathbun, 1906) - Moorea Biocode project (with 'Check').
