World Distribution
West Indian Ocean: Somalia (2°N) to south of Mozambic and south-west of Madagascar. Central Pacific: French Polynesia (Tuamotu). (0-30 m).
Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Hard bottom (rock and rubbles)
Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 10-20 m
Central Pacific data (Wallis & Futuna, Polynesia, Clipperton, Easter Island)
Ciliopagurus n. sp. - Unpublished specimens, coll. G. Paulay, fore reef of Rangiroa, 10-20 m, co-occuring with C. strigatus and equally common (FLMNH-UF 1339; first record for FP; also in MNHN); re-det. J. Poupin, M. Malay. In shells of Cyprae helvola Linné, Cyprae scurra Gmelin, Cyprae schilderorum (Iredale) (Cypraeidae) and Conus pertusus Hwass in Bruguière (Conidae), det. G. Paulay from photographs. Remark - This new species is a sibling species of Ciliopagurus tricolor Forest, 1995 and was confused with it at first determination.
