Mayotte data
Linnaeoxantho acanthomerus (Rathbun, 1911)
Material examined — Mayotte KUW 2009, st. 19, Nord îlot Handrema, 6-10 m, 1 F 5.8 x 8.1 mm, det. July 2011 (by comparison photo in Rathbun (1911), verified on sp. Novembre 2017, sp. in IRENav collection), MNHN-IU-2013-7237.
Remarks — The specimen matches well characters and photograph in Rathbun (1911), verified in November 2017 with the specimen available in IRENav collection (carapace slighly broken, and several legs separated). A revision of this species is in Mendoza et al. (2012) with new records from Ryukyu and Kiribati (10-24 m). Melybia thalamita Stimpson, 1871 is the 'equivalent' species in the Western Atlantic, very similar morphologically although classified in a different genus. Recent phylogenetic analysis inferred from nuclear and mitochondrial markers indicate that both species should be now classified in a separate family, Linnaeoxanthidae Štev?i?, 2005 (see Toma et al., 2014).
Geographic and depth ranges — IWP, Mayotte (this work) to Japan, Kiribati; subtidal to 55 m.
