Mayotte data
?Nepinnotheres pectinicola (Bürger, 1895)
Material examined — Mayotte KUW 2009, st. 20b, Islet M'tzamboro, western reef, 10-15 m, 1 F 3.8 x 4.4 mm, in a small 'Pecten' bivalve', MNHN-IU-2013-7238, det. Poupin July 2011.
Remarks — This preliminary determination must be confirmed. Without comparative material this single female examined is tentatively identified to Nepinnotheres pectinicola by using Tesch (1918: 251) key. The dactylus of external maxilliped (MxP3), however, does not clearly 'overreach the propodus', leading to Pinnotheres obesus Dana, 1852 if the entry 'not overreaching the propodus' is chosen has an alternative. The carapace is quadrangular with a straight front. The dactyls of the ambulatory legs are falciform and sub-equal. The chelae are elongated with fringes of setae along inner face of palm and dactyl a character observed in some Nepinnotheres by Manning (1993). This pea crab was leaving in a small bivalve Pectinidae.
Geographic (from Schmitt et al., 1973) and depth ranges — IWP, Gulf of Aden (Djibouti), Mayotte (this work) to Philippines; shallow water to 10/15 m (this work).
