Judkins (1978, for S. geminus) - indigenous to the eastern tropical Pacific.
Judkins (1978, for S. gibbilobatus); Vereshchaka (1990). - Equatorial Pacific between 80°W - 170°W; Seamounts Sala y Gòmez and south-western part of Nazca ridge, 21°41'-24°58'S / 81°19'-88°31'W) - Bathypelagic (?230-2000 m).

EASTER ISLAND - Sergestes geminus Judkins, 1978: 25 (eastern tropical Pacific, up to 10° S/110° W). - REMARK - Planktonic species included here although it is slightly out of the the area of Easter Island and surroundings. Sergestes geminus is a twin species of S. orientalis. Sergestes orientalis is widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific but is not yet recorded from Easter Island.
EASTER ISLAND - Sergestes gibbilobatus Judkins, 1978: 25 (eastern tropical Pacific, up to 20°S/110°W, 780 km in the north of Easter Island). - Vereshchaka, 1990: 138 (Seamounts Sala y Gòmez and south-western part of Nazca ridge, 21°41'-24°58'S / 81°19'-88°31'W; 230-2000 m). - Remark - Affiliated to S. orientalis and S. geminus.
WoRMS (October 2012) - S. geminus and S.gibbilobatus are synonyms of N. orientalis.
