Li & Bruce (2006) - Type locality: Red Sea. Also known from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kenya, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Madagascar, Seychelles, Kuweit, Laccadive Islands (Minikoi), India, Sri Lanka, Andaman Islands, Nicobar Islands, Singapore, South China Sea, Ryukyu Islands, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Sea (Hibernia Reef), Australia (Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland), Caroline Islands, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Marshall Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia (Society Islands). Plus Austral Islands. 0-53 m.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Associated with corals (facultative)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 1-50 m

Cuapetes ?elegans . Réunion. - Coll. BIOLAVE, 27/11/2011, shallow-waters, divers 10-30 m, det. J. Poupin 25/01/2013. Large chelae missing. Rostral dentition similar to C. elegans, not C. ensifrons as previously pre-identified.
