World Distribution
Asakura et al. (2003, Tropical Zoology, 204). - Distribution. Oahu, Hawaii (type locality); Fort Dauphin, Madagascar; Tahuata, Marquesas Islands, and Bora Bora and Maupiti, Society Islands, French Polynesia; now Chichijima, Ogasawara Islands, and Ishigakijima, Okinawa, Japan. Depth: 33-300 m. Also Réunion, Kume Island (in Rahayu & Osawa, 2012, Zootaxa).

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Hard bottom (rock and rubbles)

Vertical range : Shallow to deep-waters (e.g. 10-190 m) - Min-Max observed: 33-300 m

Dardanus brachyops - Poupin, 1996a: 7, 17, 96 (Checklist); 1996b: 18, pl. 8d (Bora Bora, Maupiti, Tahuata; 110-300m; coll. Frv Marara, fr). - Unpublished observation. Det. D.L. Rahayu, April 2007 from specimens in MNHN collection. Coll. MUSORSTOM 9, station CP1156, Eiao, 80 m, DW1218, Hiva Oa, 121-135 m, CP 1265, Ua Pou, 90-92 m.- Remark: this species is mostly recorded beyond 100m in French Polynesia, but it is merely sublittoral in Forest (1962: 365; more than 33m to 80m).
