Comment : This is a species of the Alpheus armatus species complex including five species; characters useful for recognition are in Almeida & Anker (2011). These are obligate associate of sea anemone (e.g. Bartholomea annulata).

Alpheus armatus is a species complex including: A. armatus, A. immaculatus Knowlton & Keller, 1983, A. polystictus Knowlton & Keller, 1985, A. roquensis Knowlton & Keller, 1985 and Alpheus rudolphi Almeida & Anker, 2011. A. armatus has yellow marks on chelipeds.
