Milne-Edwards & Bouvier, 1893: 55, Barbados [R/V Blake, st. 281, 288 brasses, 527 m, st. 291, 200 brasses, 366 m, st. 300, 82 brasses, 150 m]. - Poupin, 1994: 31, Guadeloupe [R/V Polka, 500 m, det. J. Forest (MNHN), see Comment; also p. 32, Paguristes sp. 595 m, Polka st.E11, 1 sp. Sl 5.3 mm, not determined to species level].
Comment: Paguristes sayi was described from Barbados (150-527 m) and retreived later around Guadeloupe (500 m, in Poupin, 1994; det. J. Forest). No other records were retreived in the literature for this species. Among Guadeloupe specimens collected by R/V Polka, J. Forest has recognized another species, Paguristes sp. nov. (aff. sayi), 550 m, with this comment 'this specimen, plus the one collected by the R/V Albatross in Bahamas and attributed by Benedict (1901: 144, pl. 4, fig. 2) to P. sayi, represent a new species, to be described'.
