Eastern Atlantic: from the Bay of Biscay to the Gulf of Guinea. South Atlantic: Tristan da Cunha (Henderson, 1888). Depth range: from 102 m to 3864 m; most frequently found in depths of 400 m to 1400 m.

Comment: Parapagurus pilosimanus is a species complex with four species in WA: P. pilosimanus, P. nudus, P. scaber, and P. alaminos (cf. Lemaitre, 1986). At least two species occur in Lesser Antilles, P. pilosimanus and P. alaminos, illustrated in color in Lemaitre & Tavares (2015). Based on previous collections off Guadeloupe Island and Lemaitre & Tavares (2015, fig. 23a) color photo with ocular peduncles red and ambulatory legs orange, this specimen must be Parapagurus pilosimanus.
