Depth: 36-2034 m.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Hard bottom (rock and rubbles)

Vertical range : Shallow to deep-waters (e.g. 10-190 m) - Min-Max observed: 36-2034 m

Eupagurus pilimanus A. Milne-Edwards, 1880a: 43, St Kitts, Guadeloupe, ?Barbados [R/V Blake, 175-288 brasses] - In part, the specimen from Barbados is probably Sympagurus pictus Smith, 1883 (cf. Lemaitre, 2004, 2013).

Off Curaçao Sea Aquarium, Willemstaad, CURASUB: stn 12-03, 12°05.078’N, 68°53.788’W, 144.8-182.8 m, 05.28.2012, 1 female 3.9 mm (USNM 1190206, colour voucher number CURI 12039)].

Comment: this species can be quickly recognized based on the bright red coloration on distal half of ocular peduncles. It was already photographed in color around Guadeloupe during the R/V Polka campaign (Poupin, 1994).
