Comment: In Carmona-Suárez & Poupin (2016) Mithrax verrucosus H. Milne Edwards, 1832 and Mithrax aculeatus (Herbst, 1790) should not be considered synonyms, as proposed by Windsor & Felder (2014). This issue is pending with several specimens of ‘Mithrax aculeatus/pilosus’ from Guadeloupe (Karubenthos 2012) in loan with D. Felder for further studies. Genus Amphithrax is from ‘Corrigendum’ by Windsor & Felder (2017) (deducted from Amphithrax aculeatus).

Comment(s) on data
Species recognized at Martinique on photograph by D. Felder with this comment (21/11/2012) - I am relatively certain that the first specimen below a large, older, example of what for now can still be referred to as Mithrax verrucosus … The example below does appear to be rather worn, with many broken spines. However, it lacks the superior spines on the chela that are typical of M. spinosissimus, and it has the carapace dorsal surface paved with flatten tubercles, as is typical of M. verrucosus s. l. -
