Distribution/Habitat – WA; Marine; 81–708 m
Remark – The distinction between Euprognatha rastellifera Stimpson, 1871 and E. acuta A. Milne-Edwards, 1880 have been for a long time very difficult due to the great variation in the ornamentation of the carapace (Williams 1984; Felder et al. 2009, note 291; Carmona-Suárez & Poupin, 2016). Santana & Tavares (2008: 326) have finally recognized only one valid species, E. rastellifera, with a highly variable morphology. It is distributed widely in the WA from off Georges Bank to Uruguay (Mantelatto et al., 2020).

Comment(s) on data
If Euprognatha acuta is the 'southern form' of E. rastellifera in western Atlantic, then Guadeloupe records could belong to E. acuta instead of E. rastellifera.
WoRMS list E. acuta as valid whereas Felder et al. (2009) only indicate E. rastellifera, without distinction between the two forms indicated in Rathbun (1925) (E. rastellifera marthae and E. rastellifera acuta) with this comment 'Both Williams (1984b) and Soto (1986) discuss difficulties in separating apparently sympatric subspecies of this taxon'
MNHN-IU-2013-5484, st. GD02 (80 m), JL217, 2M (+1 F ov. 5.8x4.1 mm with spines of carapace much longer, photo labo = Aepinus septemspinosus)
