Stenocionops coelatus (A. Milne-Edwards, 1878)

World Distribution
Santana et al. (2004: 859 - Journal of Plankton Research, 26(8): 859-874) - Western Atlantic - p. 859 "According to Rathbun (Rathbun, 1925) and Williams (Williams, 1984), S. furcatus coelatus has a restricted distribution within the range of S. furcatus, being limited to an
area from off Beaufort, NC, to Barbados in the West Indies. On the other hand, some authors [e.g. (Melo, 1996)] do not recognize this subspecies and include its range within the distribution of S. furcatus (Holthuis, 1959; Velez, 1977; Melo, 1999) to Brazil."
Depth range from A. Milne-Edwards & Bouvier (1923) and Rathbun (1925) - 25-508 m.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Hard bottom (rock and rubbles)

Vertical range : Shallow to deep-waters (e.g. 10-190 m) - Min-Max observed: 25-508 m

Comments: In H. Milne Edwards (1834-1840: 335) Pericera cornuta is co-specific with Congrejo cornuta, Griffîth Hughes and Maïa taurus Lamarck. In WoRMS Cancer cornuto Herbst, 1804 and Maia taurus Lamarck, 1818 are junior synonyms of Stenocionops furcata. This species is sometimes considered as a synonym or subspecies of Stenocionops furcatus (Olivier, 1791) (e.g. Melo, 1999; Felder et al., 2009), but Rathbun (1925), Williams (1984) and Santana et al. (2004) indicate that S. furcatus coelatus has a restricted distribution within the range of S. furcatus, being limited to an area from off Beaufort, North Carolina, to Barbados in the West Indies.

Comment(s) on data
Comment: Probably Stenocionops furcatus (Olivier, 1791) following synonym in A. Milne-Edwards (1873-1880) and WoRMS (2016). Therefore probably Stenocionops coelatus (A. Milne-Edwards, 1878) for Guadeloupe (see Comments).
