Comment: In Anker et al. (2016) Alpheus packardii is a species complex in revision by Anker & Santos (in preparation) and including A. packardii, A. normanni, A. bermudensis, A. beanii, and A. longichaelis.

Remark – The taxonomy of A. normanni and A. packardii remains unsettled due to the presence of cryptic taxa on both sides of the Americas (Soledade & Almeida, 2013).

Species of the Alpheus normanni-packardii complex (cf. Anker pers. Comm. June 2014, 5 species, 3 WA, 2 EP). Alpheus normanni is an EP species, see note 57 in Felder et al. (2009) and Anker (1999: 213): West Atlantic form [of A. normanni] is treated here as a separate species A. packardii.
