Decapoda - Caridea - Hippolytidae - Trachycaris

Trachycaris restricta (A. Milne-Edwards, 1878)

World Distribution
Rodríguez (1980: 172) - Carribea, Canaria, St Helena
Sousa et al. (2014) - Brazil, Amapa to Sergipe, 18–100 m;
(Sasaki, 2022) - ATL (WA & EA). 0-306 m. 306 m seems unusual.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Hard bottom (rock and rubbles)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 0-100 m

Lesser Antilles data
Distribution: Lesser Antilles, IOV (Curaçao). 1-27 m. ATL.
Trachycaris rugosus - Schmitt, 1924b: 68, Curaçao [coll. C.J. van der Horst, 1920] - Not Trachycaris rugosa (Spence Bate, 1888) but Trachycaris restricta (A.Milne-Edwards, 1878), cf. Hothuis (1949: 239)
Trachycaris restrictus - Holthuis, 1949: 239, Curaçao. - Rodríguez, 1980: 172, Curaçao.
Trachycaris restricta - Criales, 1992: 569, ?Curaçao [Curaçao doubtful: it is best to separate the east Atlantic species, T. restricta, from the west Atlantic species, T. rugosa … until it is possible to compare greater number of specimens].
Comment: Criales (1992) conclusion that T. restricta is limited to EA are no more supported because several occurrences of T. restricata are now documented in WA, Brazil (see Sousa et al., 2014). Holthuis (1949) observation with occurrence at Curaçao therefore possible.

French Guiana and surroundings areas: Guiana, Suriname, Brazil (Amapà)
Trachycaris restrictus (sic) – Ramos-Porto & Coelho, 1991/93: 187, Brazil Amapá. — Coelho et al., 2006: tab. 3, Brazil Amapá.
Trachycaris restricta – GBIF 2023, Suriname [From Complementary Benthic Biodiversity Baseline Survey, Block 58, Suriname, 2021, trawl 62–66 m, at https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/3913939461].
Distribution/Habitat – ATL; Marine; 0–306 m.
Remark – Some authors have considered that Tozeuma restricta is EA, while T. rugosa is WA. The presence of T. restricta in Brazil is, however, well documented; see for example Sousa et al. (2014) for the State of Sergipe.

Comment(s) on data
Check this entry, not in Felder et al. (2009), only Trachycaris rugosa (Bate, 1888) from Gulf of Mexico.
