Decapoda - Brachyura - Pinnotheridae - Dissodactylus

Dissodactylus mellitae ? (Rathbun, 1900)

World Distribution
Felder et al. (2009) - Mass–Fla, NE GMx–Tams Mx. 4-52 m. Also St Eustatius.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Associated with echinoderms

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 4-52 m

Lesser Antilles data
Distribution: ICA (St Eustatius). 4-52 m. WA.
Dissodactylus mellitae - Faasse, 2016: 52, St Eustatius [Photo of a specimen on a sand dollar sea urchin, probably Mellita quinquiesperforata (fig. 3)].
Comment: This field determination based on photo only (det. M. Faasse, pers. com. 2017) must be confirmed by examination of the specimen because this would be a first record for the Greater and Lesser Antilles. The crab is known with certainty from Massachusetts to Mexico (cf. Griffith, 1987).

Comment(s) on data
On photo carapace W/L is 1.24, close to C. mellitae in Griffith (1987, fig. 9) 1.37, while other species in Lesser Antilles are different: primitivus much larger (1.71), crinitichelis a little larger (1.47) but this one cannot be totally excluded.
