Felder et al. (2019) - Western Atlantic: northeastern, northwestern, and southeastern Gulf of Mexico; Suriname. 27-62 m.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Hard bottom (rock and rubbles)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 27-62 m

French Guiana and surroundings areas: Guiana, Suriname, Brazil (Amapà)
Pylopagurus operculatus – Holthuis, 1959a: fig. 31, Suriname [48-49 m]. Accepted (at least in part) as Phimochirus formani nov. sp. in Felder, Lemaitre & Craig (2019: 540) with this comment p. 544 "the line illustrations of Holthuis (1959: fig. 31) appear to apply to neither Pylopagurus operculatus (= Phimochrius operculatus), as originally reported, nor to Phimochirus holthuisi s.s., but instead most likely to P. formani nov. sp.)".
