Hymenocera picta Dana, 1852



World Distribution
Red Sea to Hawaii and Eastern Pacific. In the Eastern Pacific, Panama (Taboga I.), Colombia (Gorgona Is.) and Oceanic Islands: Clipperton, Galapagos. According to Debelius (2001: 198-199), Hymenocera picta and H. elegans are sibling species distinct by their coloration only. Geographic distribution of each species needs to be clarified. H. elegans is Indo-West Pacific whereas H. picta is known with certainty only from central and eastern Pacific.

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 1-20 m
