World Distribution
Serène (1984 : 80), Galil & Vannini (1990 : 29) - Mer Rouge, Afrique orientale, Kenya, Somalie, Tanzanie, Mozambique, Madagascar, Vietnam, Japon. L'espèce semble surtout abondante dans l'océan Indien.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Hard bottom (rock and rubbles)

Vertical range : Shallow-waters (0-100 m) - Min-Max observed: 0-5 m

Remarks — According to Serène (1984: 90) this is "l'espèce d’Hypocolpus la plus commune dans l’Océan Indien Occidental" with a specimen as large as 53 x 74 mm.
Geographic and depth ranges — IWP, Red Sea, Mozambique to Vietnam, Japan. Seems mostly distributed in WIO. Intertidal.
