Decapoda - Brachyura - Cymonomidae - Cymonomoides

Cymonomoides guinotae (Tavares, 1991)

World Distribution
Lemaitre & Bermudez (2000: 974, Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash.) - Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, 990-1005 m. It is not clear why Cuba and Venezuela are indicated as Tavares (1991) reports only Brazil for this species. According to Tavares (mail August 2015) - Cette mention se réfère à des identifications erronées. Il s'agit en fait de Cymonomoides cubensis (et non pas C. guinotae). Comme le rostre est cassé très ras ce matériel a été consideré comme C. guinotae par erreur.

Environnement : Marine - Substrat/Association : Soft bottom (mud or sand)

Vertical range : Deep (more than 100 m) - Min-Max observed: 406-1005 m

Lesser Antilles data
Distribution (Tavares, 1991; this work): WA. Brazil. Lesser Antilles, ICA (Guadeloupe). 406-1005 m.
Cymonomoides guinotae - Guadeloupe (first record for Lesser Antilles), Karubenthos II 2015, field det. J. Poupin/M. Tavares, st. CP4513, 8 June 2015, 16°12.58'N, 61°53.14'W, 644-406 m, MNHN-IU-2013-18770 (Rostrum absent), 18848 (Rostrum vestigial).
Comment: this determination is based on description in Tavares (1991: 640), confirmed by M. Tavares (com. pers.). The rostrum is absent (or vestigial) in that species. Characters of Cymonomoides genus (7 abdominal segments, cornea missing) must be verified on the specimen. The species was previously known from Brazil only its previous records in Cuba and Venezuela (Lemaitre & Bermudez, 2000) being based on a C. cubensis with a broken rostrum (M. Tavares com. pers., August 2015). The minimum depth range of the species is set herein to 406/644 m instead of 990 m previously.
